Why is it so hard to find? Because there is a kind of trans fat naturally occurring in a cow's stomach, making it look like many dairy products are worse off than they are. These trans fats do not have the same impact on the body that the man made trans fats from cheap oils do.
This doesn't put ice cream in the clear either. READ THE LABLE. Look out for the words 'hydrogenated', 'partially hydrogenated' or 'modified' in front of the name of an oil. If you see it in front of a dairy product that's a different story.
Keep in mind that ice cream is still a treat and should be treated as such. Enjoy it on occasion but be careful that 'occasion' doesn't turn into a regular event.
