McDonalds has been in the news quite a bit recently and not in a good way. Over in China and Japan the company in charge of supplying beef and chicken for their products (Shanghai Husi Food Co. ) was caught in scandal for mixing expired meats in with fresh and even picking up meat off the factory floor and tossing it in.
Needless to say, things came to a pretty big halt. Since then, in Japan they are now releasing a Tofu McNugget. It appears to be a quick move to cover for the incident but PR from McDonalds claims this was already in the making long before the incident occurred.
Apparently the Tofu nuggets are a mixture of soy, vegetables and a starchy fish paste. So this is NOT a vegetarian option. It certainly might be a healthier alternative to it's chicken brother but not by much.
I'd be interested to try it, but unfortunately it is on limited release in Japan. Too bad :(
