A diet teaming with granola bars, crackers, cereals, breads and all things in between. Now these are things that can be part of any healthy diet, the problem occurs when it's taking up the majority of your eating.
Does the following diet sound familiar?
Breakfast: corn flakes with a banana and milk
Morning Snack: granola bar
Lunch: Turkey sandwich on white with a piece of fruit
Most of the items in this imaginary recall are natural full of natural sugars. The problem with eating like this is that you are not getting enough complex fibre (found in beans, whole grains and vegetables) or protein (found in meats, cheese, eggs, beans, fish and lentils).
When our diet is carb heavy and not balanced by these other foods, we tend to feel sluggish and eat more. This is because a starch heavy diet with nothing to offset it, is digested quickly by the body, leaving us wanting more sooner then we would like.
So add more complex foods to your meals like fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains and be sure to have something with a little protein at every meal. It will improve your energy levels and help to curb your appetite.
