I am a fellow tea lover so I wanted to share a few important tips you might want to consider about your tea.
1) Loose leaf tea is often higher quality
That isn't to say there are no good bagged tea companies, but many of the larger ones use lower quality parts of the tea leaf and plant in their little bags. Sometimes you may be getting little to no tea leaves at all and more so the twigs they were attached to. You can check loose leaf teas to make sure there it lots of the leaves you are looking for.
2) Teas should be kept in sealed containers for maximum freshness
Just like your herbs, coffees and spices, teas can loose their punch if exposed to air for too long. Buying good quality jars or containers to keep your tea in will extend their life. You can even stick the tea bags in a container rather than the card board box they often come in.
3) Green tea is not caffeine free
Unless it is declared and has been treated, green tea will still have some caffeine (Only about 10% of what a cup of coffee would have). If you are looking for low caffeine options, you may want to try white tea (only 1% caffeine of a cup of coffee) or herbal (usually no caffeine).
4) Your tea is great for baking and cooking
Tea can make an excellent flavor addition to many dishes. For example, green tea is excellent for poaching fish in. Bold flavored teas such as Chai can be used for spice rubs, marinades and even baked goods. Earl Grey can make an excellent classic Earl Grey Martini. You can even use tea mixes to make your own potpourri!
5) Making your own iced tea can be cheaper and lower sugar than the store brands.
In the states if you order an iced tea, you may have been a little surprised when a glass of cold plain tea arrived at your table. This is the classic way of making iced tea and personally, a whole lot better because you can flavor if how you want! Try my Ginger Lemon Green Tea. You can really use any tea you like. The stronger the tea, the less steeping time you will need and you can always add your own sweeteners like honey or fresh fruit!
Overall, tea a fantastic choice to include in your day so drink up!
