Long term studies have shown that a diet high in potassium rich foods may reduce both the risk of high blood pressure and having a stroke. The recommended daily amount for adults is about 4200mg and many individuals don't meet this marker.
There are a number of foods out there high in potassium including bananas, avocados, parsley, dried apricots, sweet potato, beans, chocolate, yogurt, carrots, broccoli, swiss chard, brussel sprouts and halibut.
So if you have a family history of high blood pressure or are just trying to optimize your health, be sure to eat lots of potassium rich foods.
Keep in mind individuals with kidney problems or other health conditions that may be affected by potassium should speak to their doctor before trying to increase their intake.
