1) Lemon Juice= Brass Cleaner
That's right. It's packed with loads of vitamin C but it's also great as a cleaner. Just mix 1 tsp baking soda in with the juice from half a lemon and scrub away. Works like a charm. Vinegar will have a similar effect.
2) Olive Oil= Body Lotion
You might end up smelling like a pizzeria but the antioxidants and fats found in good quality olive oil make it terrific for your skin. I often get olive oil that's been flavored with lemon or lavender to take the edge off the smell.
3) Cucumber= Dark Eye Circle Remover
A good night's sleep does wonders for dark eye circles but if you need a little help, taking two slices of cucumber and placing them on your eyes for 15 minutes will help to reduce the look of dark circles.
5) Cola= Drain Cleaner
Have you ever placed a nail in a glass of coke and left it for a few weeks? Go ahead and try it. This stuff is so acidic it can clean off battery terminals. Not only can it help clear your drain if you pour enough down the sink, you can also use it to clean your toilet. Makes you a little nervous to drink the stuff huh?
6) Vodka= Disinfectant
Got a scrape that needs cleaning or a counter that you want to make sure is germ free? Purified vodka can help kill off a number of strains of bacteria by applying it to a cloth for use.
7) Garlic= Bug Repellant
It works....also keeps vampires away. :)
8) Rice= Dehydrator
Have you ever dropped your phone or MP3 player in water and been afraid to turn it back on in case the water damages it? Fill a container with uncooked rice and bury the electronic in the rice. Cover and let sit for 3 days. The rice will help to pull the water out from the inside of the phone. Doesn't work every time but it saved my iPod in the past!
9) Banana Peels= Wart Remover
The potassium in a banana peel is used in many cultures as a home remedy to help treat warts. Just take a small part of the peel and tape it with duct tape on the affected area (many people will cover a wart with duct tape to cut off the air to the wart). Leave it on as long as possible (at least a day) and you may notice a substantial improvement in the wart's condition.
10) Cayenne= Pesticide
Don't worry, it won't hurt the animals, just make think twice about digging in your gardens. When my plants are young (and as a result very tasty to small animals), I will regularly apply cayenne to the ground and around the plants to deter the animals from digging up the roots. Just be sure to reapply after any rainfall until the plant has gown large enough to manage on its own. Animals are usually only interested in the younger plants anyways.
11) Baked Potato= Shoe Warmer
I learned this from my dad. When he was a kid, they would put baked potatoes in their skates to keep them warm before games. On top of that, they would leave the baked potato in the snow after to freeze then use them as hockey pucks (waste not want not). On really cold winter days, take a couple of potatoes and baked them wrapped in tinfoil in the oven. Pull them out and place them inside your winter boots or skates for at least 15 minutes. Carefully remove. Now you have warm booties!
Amazing the things food can do for you!
