When it comes to grains, think fibre. Fibre is an important part of our diet that helps keep us regular, fills us up, controls our blood sugars and lowers cholesterol. So refined breads like white bread are the least valuable to our health.
Look for breads that use the whole grain like whole grain bread or whole wheat. Don't get fooled by multigrain breads. Some are great, but multigrain does not equal whole grains. You can still use multiple grains but only refined versions of them. So read the ingredients list. Look for the word whole in front of the name of each grain. If regular or refined flour is in the top 3 ingredients....you might want to grab a different loaf.
