You get up first thing in the morning, walk to the bathroom and hop on the scale. You don't look down for a second as you brace yourself for the result. When you finally do look down you're struck with the sense of disappointment because your weight is still hovering/climbing.
Then the self hate and inner guilt begins; leading to a day full of anxious thoughts and negative self talk.
I'm too lazy.
I'm failing at my diet.
I hate the way I look.
Let me ask you...doesn't this suck? That a number of a scale seems to be dictating if you love or hate yourself for the day?
You know what weight is? It's how hard gravity is pulling you to the ground.
It doesn't define how good of a person you are.
It doesn't define if you are looking after yourself.
It doesn't even determine if you are healthy (believe it or not).
The terrible thing is that media and the views of the world can make you feel like this number is the be all and end all. It's not though. I have clients that are considered a healthy weight and they are terribly ill because they live hectic lives and eat poorly. I also have clients that are clinically overweight but have internal organs that function 10 years younger than they are.
Think about it this way: if you could wake up tomorrow and have more energy, be able to keep up with your kids, have less joint pain, less stomach problems and do all the things you want to do: would that make you happy?
Stop letting the number of the scale decide if you are good enough. Throw it out. Focus on the things that are really important:
1) Are you getting enough sleep?
2) Are you managing your stress well?
3) Are you eating a healthy balanced diet that doesn't exclude or restrict food groups?
4) Are you being active on a regular basis?
5) Are you taking time to look after yourself and be happy with yourself?
6) Do you have positive people in your life that support you?
If you answered no to any of these questions then I suggest taking a look at your lifestyle and ask yourself why. You and your health are more than your weight. Try to focus on the points above. Health is more than dieting and restricting. If you need more guidance, do not hesitate to message me for a private consultation. This can be a challenging journey but I am happy to help you on your way.
