The calorie count is unknown on these bad boys since the inventor is keeping a tight lid on the recipe. With its rapid growth in popularity there are lots of imitators popping up, even in Vancouver.
What is known as reported by Huffington Post:
"He [Dominique] acknowledges loads and loads of butter, along with cream injected through multiple layers with a syringe-like pastry tip and a glaze on top that encircles the hole in the middle. He fries each Cronut in grapeseed oil for 30 seconds, using just one pot that can hold up to nine at a time. The oil leaves outer layers crunchy but inner bites doughy."
So I wouldn't count on this treat falling into any weight loss plans.
The next logical step for this Hyper Calorie Treat is to make it the bun for a sandwich and what a surprise: Reports are in that the Cronut will be making it's debut at the Toronto Exhibition as the buns for a cheese burger topped with maple bacon jam (because it wasn't quite bad enough for you). Again, no idea what the calorie count is, but I can tell you my best estimate would be greater than 1000 calories for one burger....easily.
Have a side of Nutella Fries with this guy and your arteries will probably just dissolve.
