Who are some of the common culprits?
McDonalds is always ready to advertise for the Olympics and FIFA world cup.
Coca cola just about turned the Olympics in Canada into the Coca-Cola World Games in 2010.
And recently I've seen advertisements by KFC with BMX bikers taking a break from their intense grinding to sit down to a big ol' Big Crunch Sandwich.
I think it's ridiculous. No professional athlete would eat these foods on a regular basis. They are paid on the condition they perform and to do that, their body has to be in optimal shape. Most of them are on very strict diets and wouldn't dream of deviating for something like this. But they pay athletes such an obscene amount for this; of course they'll stand there and eat a French fry.
It drives me nuts that companies think if they cling to athletes it will somehow cover up the fact they are peddling greasy, sugary packets of love.
Fast-food will always be fast food, no matter how much faster the person advertising it might be.
Sports and fast food isn't a recent invention either. Check out this KFC commercial from 1984. Okay, so they aren't olympic athletes but is this really going to be the best meal option for your kids after winning the big game?
