Now even though we didn't want to cook up a storm, that didn't mean we wanted to eat out either. Like most people, the holiday shopping bills are coming up so I'm working to save a little in preparation.
So what to do?
Many of my friends and family have travelled through Europe and it's not unusual over there to simply pull out a nice loaf of bread, some cheese, meat and maybe a salad or some veggies. And that is exactly what we did. We went and bought a nice whole grain loaf of bread, made a fresh salad, cut up some cheese and meats and laid it out on the table. Everyone took a little of what they wanted and there was almost no clean up except for the salad. And let me tell you, if you get a good quality loaf of bread from a bakery, you don’t even need butter.
It made it easy to just portion out a little bit of everything and still fill up on the most important things like whole grains and veggies.
I love this way of eating and I think I'm going to make it a more regular habit. It takes the stress out of cooking on nights when you're really busy and makes the nights you do cook more elaborately that more special.
