Most people that know me are aware that I do not approve of drink supplements or food bar substitutes. The human body is designed to digest nutrients and vitamins from food as it has for thousands of years....through eating actual food.
None the less, I know people will be trying this product so I've decided to investigate it. Body by Vi on the surface appears to be just like any other drink supplement/ meal substitute out there. Just like most of these products, it also claims to be unique because of it's patented features:
Digestive Resistant Maltodextrin: Maltodextrin is similar to regular sugar, in fact our body absorbs it just the same, but this company claims to have a versions that is 'digestion resistant'. Perhaps they have altered the chemical structure so the body can't break it down at well? A warning to individuals that have stomach problems: poorly digestable sugars and starches can sometimes increase stomach upset.
Aminogen: (aka Patented Protease): Protease is an enzyme that serves a number of purposes in the body, the biggest one being to break down protein. This was probably added to help you break down all the random kinds of protein that are in this drink shake.
So nothing special as far as I'm concerned with all the 'unique features'.
I have seen the nutrition lable on these products and let me tell you that the ingredients list is a little unsettling. It kind of reminds me of that song from the Animaniacs:
Don't forget that it's not a terribly well balanced product. You would have to add skim milk, fruit and whole grain toast just to get it close to a balanced meal and that's pushing it.
I do not believe that body by vi is the answer for weight loss. Balanced eating and regular activity are your best chances of taking off the weight and keeping it off. Any product that promises you sustained weight loss without exercise is pulling the wool over your eyes. Don't get sucked in by it.
