I came from a small farming community and my family and friends had cows. They were small farms though and the cows were well cared from and free to roam the fields. Not all cows are that fortunate. Many end up on large dairy or cattle farms designed for mass production. Many are restricted to their barns for large portions of the day and have limited access if none to grassy fields.
The cows above were lucky enough to be picked up by a foundation before being sent for slaughter when the farmer could no longer keep them financially. I love the absolute joy you can see in these cows as they run out into the pasture. I truly believe that happy animals make happy food. If you let the animal live in a more natural state they will eat better, be healthier and provide a better quality product. Be sure promote farmers that treat there produce and animals with the respect it deserves!
